Pro Bodybuilding/Fitness Expo Returns to Pasadena, Feb. 17-19, 2006

Pasadena, CA (PRWEB) January 22, 2006 — Many of pro bodybuilding’s greatest physiques will be on the Pasadena Civic Auditorium stage on Saturday, February 18, 2006, for the 17th annual Iron Man Pro Championships, the premier event on the West Coast.

Competitors in the contest, promoted by Iron Man Magazine Publisher John Balik, will be vying for a record $30,000 in prize money, with $15,000 going to the winner. Contestants from all over the world will be flexing at the IM Pro, including Francis Benfatto, a 47-year-old former superstar making a comeback after a 15-year hiatus. Judging will be at 10 a.m., with the Finals set for 7 p.m. A press conference, featuring a weigh-in of all competitors, will be held on Friday, February 17 at 4 p.m. in the Expo Hall. Full Article

Arnolds Bodybuilding History

Mr. Olympia began in 1965, when Joe Weider created the contest to keep the Mr. Universe champions active in the bodybuilding sport, and to give the athletes opportunities to earn money from competing. Larry Scott, who had won all major titles by 1963, including Mr. America, Mr. World and Mr. Universe, went on to win the first title of Mr. Olympia and defended the title in ’66 before retiring. The man known as “The Myth”, Sergio Oliva, won the next two years, with 1968’s title unopposed, but the following year brought in a fierce newcomer from Austria.
